Mr. Webster is a founding member of AEC Partners and prior to the formation of AEC Partners was a co-founder and Co-Managing Partner of Avista Capital Partners. Prior to Avista Capital Partners, Mr. Webster served as the Chairman of DLJMB Global Energy Partners, a specialty group he led for DLJ Merchant Banking which sourced, executed and managed DLJMB III’s energy related investments from 2000 through June 30, 2005.
Mr. Webster graduated in 1973 with a BSIM with distinction from Purdue University and in 1975 with an M.B.A. with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. In 2009, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Management degree from Purdue.
Mr. Webster serves on the Advisory Board of Purdue’s Krannert School of Management. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRZO) and is also a Trust Manager of Camden Property Trust (NYSE: CPT) and director of Era Group Inc. (NYSE: ERA) and Oceaneering International, Inc. (NYSE: OII). Mr. Webster also serves as a director of JTS Capital, Enterprise Offshore Drilling, Laramie Energy, Laredo Energy VI and Peregrine Oil & Gas.
Throughout his business career, Mr. Webster has been active in venture capital and investment activities in various industries, with a particular focus on energy. In the energy business, he co-founded and/or has been a lead investor in several E&P and service businesses, including Falcon Drilling Co., Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc., Grey Wolf, Inc. (AMEX: GW), Hercules Offshore (NASDAQ: HERO), Laredo Energy, Peregrine Oil & Gas and Union Drilling (NASDAQ: UDRL). In 1988, Mr. Webster founded an inland barge drilling contractor, Falcon, with modest capital and a single barge rig. As Falcon’s CEO, he executed a bold consolidation and growth strategy, taking Falcon public in 1995 and merging with Reading & Bates in 1997, creating one of the world’s largest offshore drilling contractors, R&B Falcon Corporation. In 1993, he co-founded Carrizo Oil & Gas and was named its Chairman in 1997 when it was publicly listed. Carrizo has developed into a leading independent exploration and production company with operations in the leading U.S. onshore shale basins. Mr. Webster has also been a founder and lead investor in non-energy companies such as Crown Resources (NASDAQ: CRCE), Encore Bancshares (NASDAQ: EBTX), RediClinic, ELV Holdings, Savage Arms and Gow Communications.
